ちゅうよう【中庸】

1 〔中正の道〕 the (happy, golden, constant) mean; the middle path [way, course]; 〖F〗 the juste-milieu 《pl. ～x》; 《米》 the middle-of-the-road; 〔適度〕 moderation.

●中庸を得た mean; medium; moderate; reasonable; even; 《米》 middle-of-the-road

・中庸を得る take the golden mean; hit the happy medium

・中庸を守る follow the golden mean; keep to the middle path; keep within bounds; exercise [use] moderation; act moderately; take the middle-of-the-road course

・中庸を守る人 a person who practices the virtue of the constant mean; 《米》 a middle-(of-the-)roader.
